A mouse in the house!

Last night at the Oppenheim house could have been a movie set. Things are so funny when you find a mouse in the house. Picture this: The plumber company representative is there to give us a quote on having our home repiped (that's a whole other story in itself!), and Don spots a mouse trying to get out the sliding glass door. Don FREAKS out and yells for me to come get the mouse. What the heck am I supposed to do? He frantically is searching for the mouse and then swears he sees it under the table, and then sees it scurry underneath the cabinets. He decides to leave the door open a bit so it can escape if it wants. The kids are SO excited that there is a mouse in the house that they keep running around yelling about the mouse. SO FUN!!

After the plumbing guy leaves the ENTIRE family heads to Home Depot to get some mouse traps. We decided on some mouse boxes that will trap up to four mice. The kids insist on helping get the traps ready. After the traps are in place, the kids have had baths and are in bed, I settle down to watch 90210, but just as soon as I hit play, Don yells, "KERRY, there it IS. There it IS."

So for the next 20 minutes the two of us chased a mouse around the family room. We moved couches and tried to get it to come out. Jerry, the dog, helped out by showing us where the little sucker was hiding. Finally, after seeing the mouse a half a dozen times, we were able to flip the couch that is was hiding under and get it. Of course I had the broom and was supposed to hit it. Well, that only lasted a second before I tossed the broom to Don. How could I do it? Gross! He got the mouse and then had to get it into the bucket he had waiting. Finally the mouse was gone. Now we had the job of vacuuming all the dust bunnies and crumbs we found in and behind the couches.

I really need to move the couches a little more often and sweep behind them. The kids have been told that they can not have ANY snacks on the couch and ALL food must be eaten at the table.

What a funny night at our house. Oh, I did get to watch 90210 without having to worry about a mouse making an appearance.

That is a hoot, Kerry! I can see it all going down. Of course, my main concern was that you were able to watch 90210, and you were. Whew!
